While your crabby political piece seems particularly relevant today, I keep going back for another look at the Disco Geode. Aside from the obvious attraction of the sparkle, the juxtaposition of the natural versus artificial embellishment is an interesting contrast. The saturated red hue of the interior is initially jarring- unexpected but also perhaps associated with viscera rather than crystal or stone. I’m curious if this were displayed in a gallery setting if it would be placed on a pedestal or hung. The former positioning would lend itself to vessel references, while hanging would reinforce the association with the original disco ball.
