Curator’s Comments:
Welcome to the site. This is quite an involved body of intricately patterned work. I appreciate the elaborate pencil drawings that combine illusionistic representation within the repeated circular frames, but Eyeful of Magic fully embraces its flat pictorial space, and for me sets up one of the most dynamic and original compositions. The repeated high contrast motif plays against anticipated figure-ground relationships in the trio of vertical bands. The design holds together through mirrored shapes that seem to expand and contract along a horizontal expanse. I additionally enjoy the abstraction of the individual shapes. Other works revealing Escher-like vignettes of interlocking birds and animals strike me as well composed and executed, but ultimately less inventive in their appropriation. Live Wire (23) is another piece exhibiting inspired juxtaposition of decorative shapes and linear perspective. The open lawn is a startling foreground, reversing the viewers understanding of atmospheric space. The rope-like line that winds through the background and then tethered down at the post below unifies the mysterious space, and keeps me coming back.
From NY to the U.K., the most comprehensive and respected source for income & exhibition opportunities.
