Curator’s Comments:
Dusk nicely captures the elegance of your more economic calligraphic compositions, and constructs a work with deeper spatial orientation. Still rather minimal in compositional shapes, the small textural marks provide an electrified “static”- adding tension and energy to the movement from linear perspective. (This seems to be an important tactile element within your signature style.) I enjoy the gradation in value in the background, which moves slowly from blue to pale pink; the fleeting colors of dusk. But the gold-orange bars in recession at the top do have a mysterious quality; with considerable weight hovering above the structures below. While the piece is decidedly architectural, I also appreciate the organic sensibilities of the palette and textures. The landscape forms an ambiguous body, which tightly cropped, shows dramatic influences at work.
