Curator’s Comment:

It’s hard to resist a smile when I look at these shoes. But aside from the quirky subject matter, the photograph presents a surprisingly austere composition. The light/white values in the legs transition into the negative background space, keeping heightened emphasis on the bold animal pattern. Ample room under the feet elevates them slightly, injecting a slight psychological lift to the picture. The graphic sensibility of the work does however position itself as somewhat of an outlier in your folio. The viewer may look for a crossover in color or structure, but only faint violet shadows under the feet suggest an aesthetic affiliation.
