Curator’s Comments:
I appreciate the loose vulnerability of the gesture drawings laid out in Strips. While I don’t necessarily read them as a continuous linear narrative, they are very effective in communicating a human presence of or condition in just a few lines. The alternatingly shaded and white backgrounds move the eye along through the images, setting up visual interest and contrast. The strip format and slightly disjointed sequencing actually reminds me of Ida Applebroog’s work, as well as the relationships that briefly explore romantic connection and then alienation. The square left intentionally blank in the bottom row is an elegant and poetic visual rest to the series- leaving the viewer anticipating, and then sharing in the feeling of absence.
From NY to the U.K., the most comprehensive and respected source for income & exhibition opportunities.
