Curator’s Comment:
I find this to be an amazing piece, as it exhibits nuanced formal qualities with more overt inclusions of political persuasion. I find it’s not often a piece with direct political content can be appreciated for its pure aesthetic attributes. Oil does a venerable job of pulling the viewer into the environment with different hues and intensities within a very limited palette range. The range of blues helps give the white marking solid structure, which range from smooth planes of ice to rougher petrified chunks. I love that the word ‘oil’ in red is peeking up from the horizon- both serving as warning in the distance, and temptation for the taking (or drilling).
