Curator’s Comments:
Appearing Duality shimmers with an abstract intermingling of composite paper elements. The face mask appears vaguely feminine with the crimson lips and black lined right eye. The opposite side doesn’t necessarily suggest a masculine persona in dualistic features to me, but instead disbands into further obscurity. The brownish hues do look more weathered or eroded, as in an aged patina. I also see the faint staining of oil in a halo at the top of the head. It’s difficult to detect if this is an intended pale shape, or shadow of the medium. But I positively see the influence of Surrealist traditions of juxtaposition and ambiguity of personal identity. The tag “Investigating the mind through art” is a provocative if universal aspiration. I do hope you post more image son the site, to see how you’re building these cerebral-physical relationships.
