Portfolios: April 2013 Curator Reviewed Art

Curator’s Comments:
This apparently untitled piece is inexplicably mysterious in its furtive subject and medium. The gradated and saturated cobalt blue veil in the top of the piece directly references sky, but I could either be looking at a blended color field painting, or an aerial photograph. The economic composition, devoid of any reference point, provides a wide expanse in which the viewer can hover. The cloudy, hazy bottom section further enhances the sensation of buoyancy in the work. We never find our ground, despite the pleasurable sensation. The second piece, immediately after this one in the portfolio, shares a similar enigmatic space, but the thin blue line cutting across the pale blue-violet stretch of sky provides directionality and focus. While scale isn’t indicated on the images, I imagine these works could have a profound impact as large compositions, as they could present a suspended and meditative environment for the viewer.
From NY to the U.K., the most comprehensive and respected source for income & exhibition opportunities.
