Curator’s Comments:
This piece of a sitting woman appeared randomly on the site together, and I appreciate the aesthetic tension created between sensitive introspection communicated by the figure’s head, along with the robust treatment of her body and surrounding space. The cubistic fracturing of form created by black lines cutting through an open value pattern creates a sort of harmonic dissonance. The cool blue-green palette is alternatingly soothing and intense. The graphic design in the upper right portion of the painting doesn’t translate as a representational accompaniment to the figure for me, but I nonetheless appreciate it as a counterpoint to the centralized visual weight of the woman. Looking back through your other pieces here I remember commenting on the more abstracted and fully non-representational images. They also contain interesting combinations of large and small gestures, and chromatic passages. As this work was shared some time ago, I do hope you consider adding new work to your folio here if you are still active.
