Thank you for sharing your vibrant new work to the site! The densely patterned imagery in this painting is held together beautifully within the contours of the expressive head. Similar approaches are utilized with singular containment forms in Anemoia, Soul and Catharsis, as the central figures anchor the active, multi-directional designs. While multiple eyes offer conflicting expressions in Metanoia - from lazy half-closed lids, to intensely focused round eyes, the mood still reads as a gestalt. I appreciate the choice of a high chroma yellow ground, for the saturation balances the value contrast of all of the tiny configurations. The shape of the mouth and relationship to the eyes is reminiscent for me of Picasso’s Weeping Woman; the wildly contorted portrait of Dora Maar. I wonder if that was intentional? The colorful “E” shapes that move along pathways at the top of the head suggest a transference of energy or thought. The title supports a narrative of anguish and transformation.
From NY to the U.K., the most comprehensive and respected source for income & exhibition opportunities.
