 Curator’s Comment:

These paintings have what seems to be an enjoyable process driven, expressionistic sensibility.  The whiter pieces are voluminous and ethereal but also contain interesting opaque, chalky passages.  For me this piece (dated?/designated 8-29-12) implies a more solid space with alternating blue and ochre shifting brushstrokes.  The color scheme, with a distinctively cooler top section, could intentionally reference landscape.  But the horizon, if it exists, is diffused and blurred by soft gesticulated movement.  I like that there is no primary focal point or area of emphasis.  Instead slightly darker lines direct me in alternating diagonals.  Sections of dry brushed pigment nicely codify an overall textural harmony and suggested mass. I also particularly like the work 2-5-12b.  The lighter palette crafts a wispy veil over underlying forms.  Small bits of higher chroma pink, blue and yellow hues peek through the space, in seemingly randomly punctuated intervals.   The visual movement here is slow and deliberate, but not without cadenced, or metrical energy.
