Curator's Comments:
There is an absolutely haunting quality to this painting. In the Lobby first caught my attention as a random thumbnail picture when I thought there was a dark animal-like form in the shadowy center. But even with longer and closer viewing, a distinct form refuses to materialize- staying within the periphery of sight and imagination. I can’t feel at all confident of the subject, but feel fairly certain that a small turf of earth or plantings is growing from the dedicated container in the center of the composition. The life-supporting quality appears to be confirmed against the grey and otherwise dim surrounds. Looking back through your other works on the site, I remember admiring your lush, expressive figurative works several years ago. While this piece may be devoid of saturated color and distinct representation, it shares a dedication to instinctual expression. I do hope you continue to share your new work on the site. It is a pleasure to view your work.
