Each sunrise is a new beginning of a new day.
A New Day seems the perfect piece to start off the new year. The vibrant and sunny hues evoke a summery season, but capture a fresh beginning. The subject is deceptively simple, but the contrast between the reflected bits of white in the teal green waters sets the space apart from the yellow-orange sky. I’m drawn to the scumbled/eroded shape in the top of the composition which appears to be a sail weathered in the elements. The ambiguity provides visual interest and movement in the piece. The diagonal line of the boat’s mast is another shape that offsets the predictability and equilibrium of the familiar scene. While the A New Day caught my attention on this New Year’s Day, I realize it’s not actually a recent work. Please consider sharing your new (or new to us) artwork.
