Curator’s Comments:
A Walk in the Field came up today in a random search, and I was intrigued by the painting. There’s a freshness to the bucolic scene that belies the complexity of its construction. As I’ve appreciated in your other works on the site, the graphic flatness of some figures beautifully balances atmospheric perspective elsewhere in the composition. In this work, the sharply contrasted black dog becomes a figural focal emphasis, with its gaze pushing the viewer down the yellow path, to the cool blue house. The fence line supports this diagonal construction, and conceals what looks to be complex landscape beyond our view. Wavering between abstraction and illusion, I enjoy the overall softness of the piece. It is inviting, and surprisingly personal; offering us specific details into what could only be a familiar place.
From NY to the U.K., the most comprehensive and respected source for income & exhibition opportunities.
