Curator’s Comments:
I came across Activity on the site this morning, and thought the immediacy of the monotype process is particularly well suited to your subject. While I have admired your abstract landscapes in the past, I didn’t originally recognize your hand in this piece. The figurative shapes moving quickly across the blue-green, broader brushstrokes, suggesting a pathway or boat on a waterway. The vertical lines could further be imagined as nautical structures/masts, or architecture in the background. Just as I envision these streamlined representations, the image beautifully dissolves into patterned mark-making, forming a composite of movement in pure form. The repetition of the various elements forms a quick staccato arrangement. Whatever degree of symbol or depiction was intended, the dry brush marks nicely contrast the more fluid gestural strokes. I see that this work, along with your other landscapes, were posted several years back. I would love to see what you’re been doing since these works.
