Commonly called wild onion or wild garlic. It appears in fields as a cluster of bulblets at the top of a long stalk. Some of these clusters sport a topknot of tiny flowers with delicate stamens protruding from the center. The topknot shown here was less than an inch long.

Curator’s Comments:

The marvel of your photographs is that they look significantly more vivid and wondrous than the natural world.  This image is particularly striking- Allium vineale.  I’m appreciative of your descriptions of your subjects, as I wouldn’t have imagined this was a plant I would ordinarily encounter.  The violet and green hues are absolutely luminous against the inky black background.  The cropping of the base provides a bed of added complex warm tones and variegated textures.  The frail tips of the stamens offer another visual contrast to the bulbous flower and thick stems, while the entire form has an aquatic structure, like a sea anemone or urchin.  I believe your work entitled Monotropa Uniflora  also exhibits a surreal mystique.  The milky white coloration is otherworldly and wraithlike, as though it exists in a shadowy environment devoid of natural sunlight.  Its composition is also elegant in its economy, while the pale pink undertones are set off by the delicate translucency of the flower.  Stunning work.
