Curator’s Comments:
This Amalgam seascape caught my attention today as it sets up an interesting banding of space; layered no doubt by your expressed use of different scenic locations. The strong horizontal movement is beautifully manipulated by a low contrast value pattern and even more limited range of cool hues. The breaking waves in the foreground set up a slightly different diagonal direction in the piece, which is also offset by the very dark strip of island and trees in the distance. The blurry edge of the waterline enhances the illusion of atmospheric perspective, along with the elongated pictorial format, stretching the horizon. I was surprised when I looked through your other works on the site to find this is the only landscape included. I remember admiring the intense psychological drama of your narrative figurative works in the past. Amalgam has a decidedly different approach. The seascape came up randomly today though it was created some time ago. I do hope if you’re still on the site you consider posting new work. The dexterity in your practice is admirable.
