Conversation is a charmingly surreal image, as the loose brushstrokes and soft blues and pinks create an unusual dialogue with the abstracted subject matter.  Clearly identifiable as birds in a tree, the forms nonetheless evoke a dreamy natural state, as the edges dissolve into the lighter ground.  The more active gestural marks coming off of the grass move enthusiastically upward; directing the viewers’ eye to the still birds.  The marks appear to have been reductively worked, revealing an underlying light.  There’s also some ambiguity in this context, suggesting the tree form could serve as an inflated thought bubble or otherwise metaphorical container for the conversation. Either way, I also enjoy the theme of duplicity or duality in many of your pieces- from this work , to Meeting, to Just the two of us.
