Curator’s Comments:
Thank you for sharing your work on the site. I’m intrigued by your use of fuzzy versus hard edged boundary lines in what look like multifaceted collage pieces. The seemingly untitled, but numerically designed image 100_4953 shows a particularly adept handling of a myriad of patterns in compartmentalized sections. The directional lines in some of the patterns help show texture and movement, as with the subject’s hair, as well as suggest a receding linear perspective, as in the bottom section/table surface. The color relationships also simulate some fleshier hues within the figure, but remain low chroma or achromatic in the ground. I find the overall mood rather pensive and contemplative. Anguish 2 appears to fall within the other end of the spectrum, representing your more gestural and colorful handling of another abstract figure. I am drawn to the intense blue emphasis on the hands, which visually contrast the yellow-violet complementary color scheme elsewhere. The close up “zoomed-in” cropping of the body also makes me wonder if this image was in fact part of a larger composition. But without a more developed narrative, the subject’s angst is suspended in a more universal expression. I enjoy these two drawings for their very different characteristics, and so I look forward to seeing more of your work on the site.
