Curator’s Comment:
This is an especially nice architectural painting. The fine play of edges offers flat hues in some areas and solid, opaque and structural color in others. I particularly like the very faint shift in value and chroma on the blue/green building and adjoining structure (chimney?) The delicate mortar lines on the brick seem to run counter to the less manipulated planes of color. And there’s a disorienting atmospheric quality to the environment as the pipe like structures in the background have more tonal manipulation that the objects in the foreground. There’s a consistency, and ‘signature style’ clearly evident in your work. At first glance, Bayville Boatyard has a totally divergent treatment of space and color, but looking a bit closer I can am conscious of an analogous play with texture versus flat space, and bold, choreographed areas of empty sky.
