Curator’s Comments:
The primacy and minimal quality of form attracted me to this seemingly untitled piece. I like that it appears to be constructed of multiple interlocking pieces due to the contrasting color veining. I’m unsure if these are tight physical seams or illusionistic drawings on the surface. The ambiguity of its overall shape suggests a utilitarian function; the structural symmetry with unusually specific contours. It occurs to me looking at the other sculptures in your portfolio that this piece is rather inward looking or focused, as it’s self-contained, rather than utilizing open constructions with multiple focal elements. There is also a visual heaviness to this sculpture, though media and scale aren’t identified. It is streamlined and elegant, though aesthetically is almost opposed to the gestural abstraction evident in your more colorful painting. I realize these pieces were posted a few years ago, and I do hope you add new work to the site. There’s an intriguing process evident in the expansion and contraction of forms throughout your studio practice.
