Curator’s Comments:
This untitled piece doesn’t offer much information in terms of scale or media, but I appreciate the visual interplay with the breaking down and restructuring of the grid. As a work occupied with the formal perception of the physical and implied picture frame, the lines exercise an interesting interplay between random expression and organized design. The black interior of the actual frame on the bottom right (I assume it’s a dimensional picture frame mounted on a larger support) functions as a visual rest, and denial of the expectation of illusionistic space. The opposing framing element (metal maybe?) curiously has more gestural marks on the edges than inside window. The image you’ve included that depicts this piece in an arrangement of four related works further investigates the idea of the frame, and the possibilities of obscuring and emphasizing those simple geometric boundaries.
