I’m absolutely captivated by Queen Chubby.  Your bird pictures have an expressive, lyrical charm that never ventures into the sentimental or predictable.  The color is luscious- giving the piece a decided allure than must be amplified by its substantial scale.  On a smaller scale it would not doubt still hold intrigue because of the skillful illustration and color, but I enjoy that the normally petite bird becomes a sizable and almost posturing entity. The form seems to break apart along the bottom edge, giving way to the confetti- line of food temptations.  The pizza slice is quite humorous, dangling from the ‘queen’ like a pointed arrow foot. The whitish background is a graceful support, with faded color echoing their vibrant counterparts in the bird and explosive temptations. The whole piece is eye candy.  The black bird (Pastic Me) is a comparatively more subdued piece because of the smudgy darkness and lack of accoutrements and multihued trappings.  It holds a different kind of drama, but still vacillates between expectations.  The haptic, gestural quality of the drawings also holds emotive power- demanding the viewers’ attention, and then pulling us in closer to appreciate the smaller elements.
