Curator’s Comments:
When I first viewed your body of work on the site I was so enamored with your iphone Fayum portraits I didn’t spend as much time with this piece, identified as Parvati India Center. The digital manipulation of the reflective quality captured in the metallic bronze surface of the Bodhivista creates a glowing entity. I appreciate the sharper focus on the head. It secures the subject in space, while suggesting flowing movement of the arms and background space. The pinkish aura emanating around (implying from) the subject settles into a deeper red color at the bottom of the piece, adding formal and conceptual interest. Unlike the other portraits, however, I don’t detect contemporary clues within this piece, beyond the use of a current medium. Recognizing it was posted along with your other work quite a while ago, I would love to see your new portraits. Please consider sharing what you’re doing now.
