Curator’s Comment:
Is the title a reference to Bocelli, or just to the idea of a dream? The opened door, revealing a wistful, provincial landscape certainly lends itself to either. The physical scale of the painting is impressive; no doubt giving the sensation of an actual entryway into another space. I also like the flipped value pattern of the blackish door panes versus the opened white grid work and architectural door frame. The slight diagonal angle of the door adds intrigue, skewing the viewers’ perspective ever so slightly. The highly textured, almost impressionistic treatment of the outdoors provides a nice visual contrast to the interior space, while keeping the composition unified. I find some of your other paintings that include layered imagery of landscapes with fractured /pixelated musicians much more dissonant. For me, Winter Ballade has the most resolved figure-ground relationship in this grouping, as the muted white space readily recedes to highlight the animated leaping figure.
From NY to the U.K., the most comprehensive and respected source for income & exhibition opportunities.
