Curator’ Comment:

Thank you for bringing your new piece Synthesis to my attention. I definitely would have recognized your signature style otherwise, with its dynamic arrangement of planar and solid forms. I appreciate the unusual perspective of this photograph, as we’re able to enjoy the aesthetic relationship between the articulations in the marble base against the smooth aluminum sculptural components. While the accompanying text asserts the shapes suggestion of kinetic moment, there appears to be tension between perpendicular angles where sections meet. The manner in which the linear ‘arms’ align implies an interlocking mechanism, as if the turning of one impacts the other. There seem to be more points of connection than in many of your other sculptures. I also find myself considering the soft quality of the base metal, and wonder if the choice to paint the surface arises from the desire to limit reflection.  The matte surface is reminiscent of a lead or zinc alloy. The aesthetic result is an elemental balance and harmonic contrast between materials. I may also have mentioned before that I view your two- and three-dimensional work as architectural in nature.  While the dimensions help the viewer understand the object, it can easily be visualized on a much larger scale.
