Curator’s Comment:
Welcome to the site! I’m happy for the introduction to your fresh studio practice that appears to explore ancient tablets and figurative sculptural forms. The clay works appear to be divided between cuneiform inspired slabs with intricate pictographic symbols and organic figurations that recall bleached bones and viscera. Before I go falls into the latter category, and for me holds a provocative beauty in its still arrangement. The title lends a poetic note to the white pieces, which simultaneously signal loss and solidity. The clean geometry of the ring shapes play against the more contorted biological shapes. The top portion looks to be thinly folded and undulated porcelain- defying the natural weight of the medium. It’s placement at the top of the loosely assembled structure further suggests lung tissue on top of lower bodily organs such as stomach or intestines. Perhaps my read into the piece is too literal. While the scale of the installation isn’t noted, the piece holds a sense of intimacy in the delicate vestiges of a once whole being.
From NY to the U.K., the most comprehensive and respected source for income & exhibition opportunities.
