Curator’s Comments:
This seemingly untitled piece (numerically designated before 2009 1658) conveys a quiet intimacy. I’ll echo Bob’s much earlier comment about the closeness of the figures conveying a touching embrace. The low contrast achromatic diptych looks to be a painting, although media and scale aren’t noted. The central line dividing the two halves of the piece creates an interesting formal and psychological dynamic- a threat of separation to a bonded trio. While the pale grey tonalities could imbue the bodies with a ghostly presence, I instead see the texture as solid and stone-like rather than ethereal. The continuous background modulations read as a type of visual static. It fills every inch of space with the presence of the connected figures.
