I particularly like this most recent figurative piece you’ve posted.  While in some ways it seems less concerned with flat patterning and textural mark-making, the deviation from local color imbues the figure with a unique quality that sets her apart from her more muted surroundings.  The treatment of heavy outline also gives the painting a graphic sensibility, containing the more expressive areas of broken color.  I find it interesting that the shallow space offers the viewer entry into her environment, and yet the architectural features are tightly confining.  The table top, arch way and door direct attention to the subjects head, but her extended arm then points us downward into the picture.  It’s a painting rich in color and restrained gesture; a painting arguably made for painters who vicariously appreciate the joy of the medium.
