Curator's Comments:
The moody tones of Eclipse caught my attention the other day, and the painting became even more enjoyable with longer viewing. That saturation of the orange circles and splatters transmit an economic depiction of the sun, moving through semi-translucent shadows. The use of soft black is particular beautiful in this watercolor, as it still allows a sense of light to pass through the layered pigment. I also appreciated the softened curves of the blocks of varying warm and cool hues. Rather than a jarring Futuristic fracturing of form and space, the transitions between shapes is smooth and even. I also appreciate the broken diagonal sweeping through the composition- it suggests the edge or barrier that will ultimately object our view. While your more realistic works on the site demonstrate finesse with media and attention to detail, it is the mystery of this work that holds my attention. I do hope you’re continuing to make new work, and that you will share it on the site.
