Curator’s Comments:
I came across Borderline at random, and found myself viewing it for a considerable time, contemplating the large textual inclusion SELF. In relationship to the work’s title and ‘Reality’ in the bottom right corner, the imagery appears both contradictory and self-referential. The implied (and physically collaged) borders between the self and figures is curious, keeping individual identity partially obscured. The adult reader with the child on her lap is a selfless archetype of femininity. The intimate figures cropped space is interestedly juxtaposed against not only the heavy block lettering, but a dark and stormy shoreline. I see the landscape as injecting an ominous mood into the piece. But the visual relationship between these elements invites the viewer to contemplate the space in which ‘self’ exists, in relationship to others and an environment which is beyond our control.
From NY to the U.K., the most comprehensive and respected source for income & exhibition opportunities.
