Curator’s Comments:
This is a very pleasing formal study. I like the crowded repetition of the objects, where the eye intuitively connects similar colors and forms. The two vertical elements, apparently a background window pane, help move vertically through the photograph and offset the visual weight proportionally in the bottom of the composition. The erosion of the surface, or pitted dirty surfaces add grit to the translucent elegance of the colored glass. This blending of saturated color against aged patinas works well in several of your other pieces; the Blue Door and Preservation Hall seem to be best examples. I think it’s interesting that many of your works with human figures capture the feeling and aesthetic of a specific place, while the still life works transcend specificity and therefore could be determined more universal.
