Thank you so much for the indepth comments on "In the Light" and "Reflection on the Table"  Both of these paintings were done in a series of 20 full sheet paintings.  The objective of the series was to create 20 paintings from a single still life without changing the artist view of the still life or rearranging the still life in any way.  The objects were to become shapes and the focus was to be one or more of the eight elements of design and principles of fine art.  Given that, you will see the same still life morphed into several genre from realism to abstraction.  Thanks again for the comments.  They are very appreciated

Curator’s Comment:

In the Light has a wonderful melt of dark violet hues into the more contrasting pattern of the checkered ground.  The diagonals created through linear perspective direct the eye to the orange on the left, and then this shape is skillfully echoed by another slightly curvilinear shadow towards the right.  I also really like the brownish orange reflections that travel throughout the still life, connecting the various geometric and organic forms and vacillating between transparency and sumptuous opacity. The apparent sister work titled Reflection on Table carries the same satisfying warmth, but is positioned in what appears to be a less formal, or academic arrangement.  The watercolor paint surface appears to break in slightly unexpected areas such as the lighter bottle, creating nice textural variation.  I believe the verticality of the composition also works well as it suspends the visual weight towards the top, giving the work a poetic discord, and moving faintly towards abstraction.
