Curator’s Comment:
Your portfolio boasts a dizzying array of color and uncompromised, enveloping texture. In the horse series I prefer the formation of a more distinct figure-ground relationship, such as in Break Free. Without the context of the other more identifiable Forward, I don’t know that I would have ultimately come to recognize the subject, but I enjoy the break and distinction within the inexorable rhythm of the design. The prevalence of bright pink and blue hues help to hold the pieces together, if in contrasting and competing high chroma pattern. And while the horse figure doesn’t actually break from the confinements of its shape or defined picture plane, the entire work provokes continual movement. The nature of your self-taught technique isn’t specified, but the painting surface appears to break in choppy impasto waves and layered pigment. Looking back at the piece entitled Forward, I appreciate the efforts to demonstrate movement, but actually prefer the more abstracted versions of the horse, which seem to dissolve and pixilate raw and unbridled momentum.
