Curator’s Comments:
Provincetown Dune appears to be structured in a similar manner to your various fence paintings, but rather than employing a stabilizing repetition of marks in the bottom of the picture plane, the long yellow strokes provide dynamic directional element. I find it interesting that they sway to the right, while the dune dips down on the left hand side of the piece, providing a skillful counter- movement. The stark simplicity of the work is also nicely accentuated by subtle blue manipulations in the sky. I see the faint band of whitish clouds as echoing the white dune shape below. It surprised me to see the notation that this is a rather small piece; I imagined it larger, as it highlights a wide open expanse.
