Curator’s Comments:  

 

Brooklyn Heights is a delicately painted work, offering a continuous display of fluctuating, impressionistic color. The blue-white façade of the house is beautifully carried into the lacey blue-violet shadows on the walkway. Both  are deftly framed by the adjacent tree and greenery. While the tree compositionally cuts off the pathway as visual entry into the landscape, it succeeds in creating pictorial intimacy by enclosing the scene. While actual medium isn’t indicated, there seems to be faint watercolor washes throughout the painting.  The contrast of the dark wrought iron adds interest and variation of texture, without overwhelming the palette.  I would imagine this piece to be a formal study, without a conscious attempt at personification of a structure, but your other pieces offer what seems to be more subjective emotive engagement. For instance, while you offer some insight into your intent of Fog Descends in an Amber Fugue  I feel as if the bridge itself is the solitary figure, inviting inward and outward reflection.
