Curator's Comments:
I have admired your work for several years now, and delight in the craggily line work and interplay between calligraphic contours and raw gesture. This new piece, modest in scale, becomes a jewel in the handling of rich color. As a signature process enjoyed in your previous works, I relish the manner in which your drawings open up, and then condense in other areas, resulting in rich, visceral surfaces. The viewer is seduced into a somewhat chaotic space, and becomes enveloped by the tangled linear movement. East London Strippers Coalition Quarantine #16 Portrait Pose is a provocative and strangely reassuring title. It clues the viewer in to the established practice of portraiture, which ultimately led to the dissolution of form. I also find a sardonic humor in the contemporary reference to timeless mark-making. I’m happy to see your practice is thriving during these unsettling times. Thank you for sharing new work with us.
