Giorno d’amore (Love Day) caught my attention today, with its interesting landscape oriented abstraction. The relationship between the dark swirling shapes in the foreground and lighter areas of broken color in the background is visually unexpected. The layering, or stacking of these bands of space and texture imply an atmospheric space, while the tiny red ribbons of color move in all directions across the strata. I particularly enjoy the vertical vermilion strokes in the top of the piece, and the patterns they create against a contrasting blue-violent ground. When I looked through your other paintings on the site, I was surprised to be reminded of your dominantly figurative work.  I had enjoyed and commented on Before Meeting a while back, when I admired its graphic sensibility and narrative content.  Giorno d’amore appears to be an outlier in subject matter, but still contains the sensual and painterly approach to color and space evident in your central work.  I look forward to seeing more of your images, and hope you share new pieces on the site.
