Curator’s Comments:
I love the relationship between your paintings and these recent onyx-black sculptures. The three dimensional pieces resonate with the same geometric-organic tension seen in the flat works. While the physical material isn’t identified, there is a wonderful luster to the forms which project as liquefied resin, or a similarly polished coating. I was surprised to see the notation that this piece was carved (subtractively), as it appears to have been formed additively, or molded. But regardless of the process, the reflective aspect of the finished surface imparts just the right about of opposition to the softened shapes. Somewhat enigmatically titled as “characters”, the sculptural units possess a specificity that suggests human figuration, or at least conscious, living movement; a bending gesture for instance in Character IV. For me Character II likewise recalls a bodily intimation, though more rigid than the former work. The purity and economy of the sculptures are dichotomously engaging and mysterious.
From NY to the U.K., the most comprehensive and respected source for income & exhibition opportunities.
