Curator’s Comments:
Christmas Bows at first appears to be a rather straight forward academic drawing. But the repetitive nature of the subject matter and tight rendition of the forms provides an intriguing patterned design. Small amount of negative space break up the high chroma rainbow hues; the saturation adds a surprising visual strength to the otherwise innocuous subject. I like that the color travels throughout the composition, connecting the bows of similar hues. The eye looks for these pairings and similarities within the unorthodox still life grouping. The black and white works in the series posted also exhibit bold contrast, but for me they don’t offer a new and unexpected view of the ordinary, but a graphic stylization of human subjects. I’m most attracted to The Thinker, which moves beyond iconic cultural types and expands into an even more universal expression.
From NY to the U.K., the most comprehensive and respected source for income & exhibition opportunities.
