Like gold. Is pretty. And discordant angular section in middle.
One night I read, or imagined that I read, that gold was utilized primarily to represent the color of heaven's atmosphere.
What- a thousand years ago? I am a poor history student.
Even so, that is what it means to me, whether it was intended to or not.
When I read something like that I never forget it.
-thank you!
Curator’s Comments:
I wonder if this image is intended to serve as an artistic self portrait, or if you being placed in the work is intentionally calculated to provide the viewer a better sense of scale and space? The kinetic elements appear quite dynamic and animated, less impacted by surface gravity than their arching and horizontal cross movement. I find it interesting how the sculpture seems visually grounded and yet levitates at human height and scale. Rounded forms could alternately be construed as figural segments, connecting to elongated limbs and ribs. The single gold tonality helps to unify the ovoid shapes versus connecting lines. But I also wonder if the gold’s metallic luster references elemental conception or if it’s purely a formal or aesthetic choice? The preciousness of the surface removes it from the industrial domain and into a sphere of golden design; the golden mean, astrological charting, alchemy, or metallurgical fabrication. Either way, I hope you consider posting more sculpture on the site.
