Comment
Thank you for responding- this is very interesting work.
Thank you very much for your comments. I'm intrigued by your view of the gesture slowing down. This encourages me because my working theory places the self in context and this 'slowing down' is a possible outcome of a gesturing self encountering a context. My premise is the self resides in context, not apart from it and this context has an effect on the self.
Curator’s Comment:
I interpret these pieces as process or action oriented, as the strong gestural dynamic to the marks takes precedence over the forms or color. Cible is particularly interesting because it slows down a bit because of the articulation of smaller elements and color. I particularly like the lemon yellow and tinted blues in the piece, along with the darker arching lines of darker contrasting value. The somewhat erratic edges maintain the spontaneity prevalent in your other works, but the orchestration of the movement seems more calculated and amalgamated in this piece. I also appreciate the piece entitled Oak for the manipulation of white- the opacity and worked gray edges. The large yellow form also holds the balance of visual weight, and counters the dramatic bursts in other sections of the composition.
