Curator’s Comments:
I enjoy that when I first look at this piece I see atmospheric inclinations within a traditional “Renaissance window” oriented picture plane. But upon closer viewer I see a relative flatness of space, and more decorative handling of repeated compositional elements. The title My Battered Heart Swells communicates a poetic longing, or awe inspired vantage point atop the serene landscape. The intensely colored blue and pink foliage appears nestled in a valley between more muted tones. I also find it interesting that the outskirts are more naturally or randomly scattered, while the interior space is a more manicured garden; trees planted in neat even rows. The drawing doesn’t exactly contain human elements, but the cultivation of some space opposed to other areas creatively offers the decided presence of the human hand.
From NY to the U.K., the most comprehensive and respected source for income & exhibition opportunities.
