Curator’s Comments:
Welcome to the sight! I enjoy your non-objective colorful paintings, and am curious about your technique. The text accompanying other pieces identifies an alcohol ink medium on acrylic. This may account for the appearance of fluidity of the pigment and interesting expressive manner of arresting gesture in these works. While I generally have a preference for the images with a limited range of warm and cool contrasting values, I’m most attracted to Energy in Retrospect. The organization of warmer colors on top and cooler hues generally relegated to the bottom half of the space offers an interesting visual tension, while creating compositional hierarchy. I also detect a general symmetry to the progression of colors, with orange and green amorphous clouds forming on either side of the central deep pink shape. There’s also an effective manipulation of light within the multi-hued swaths of color, as the saturation appears to concentrate along the edges of the wash. In this work as in several others, there’s a nice balance between purposeful design and spontaneity.
