Curator’s Comments:
Fossil Sequencer is a relatively elusive work with layers of complexity that may be overlooked among the more colorful pieces in your portfolio. While it shares a tactile beauty with the mask headed characters, the non-objectivity of the subject matter invites speculation and mystery. The repeated dots in the bottom third suggest a counting or utilitarian cataloging when considered along with the given title. But the rustic surface and organic color for me also brings to mind natural oxidation or patina; as if the object itself is a fossil. I like how the reddish/green break in surface transfers between the strongly striated sections. It connects each band in a direct and harmonious manner. It also appears as if the piece’s support isn’t exactly square, reinforcing the simultaneity of image and object.
