Portfolios: Cubes and Fragments

Curator’s Comments:
I remember commenting positively on your abstract figurative work some time ago. I enjoyed the pared down compositions of fleshy bodies, which created some ambiguity of the total figure present. This three-dimensional cropping takes the abstraction further- heightening the viewers’ sensory pleasure of the body, distilled into minimal form. The geometry of the cube in some ways counters the organic modulations of warm color. But the conception of the body remains. While the dimensions of the cube aren’t indicated here, I imagine that if on a relatively small scale it presents as a fragment of the whole. The corner view of this piece is particularly intriguing as well, as the shadows move towards the outer edges of the cube, and suggest a crease or fold in skin. As a solid object, there is the projection of a smooth, tactile relationship with the human body.
