Curator’s Comments:
Infidelity successfully exhibits symbolic posturing of the disloyal couple- physically engaged with each other while simultaneously looking outside their immediate shared connection. Their interior space is curious- colorful apple green and cobalt stripes contrast the muted tones in their skin, which is similarly shaded with cool violets and black. Some anatomical features I notice are minimized, such as the detailing in their hands, while more sexualized musculature and nipples are enhanced. Their likeness doesn’t end with skin tone, as their other figures suggest a yin-yang male and female duality. The smooth rounded hair and slant of their eyes, nose and lips echo an androgynous expression. I wondering if this consistent stylization happens in the natural aesthetic practice of your figure painting, or if there is a greater truth declared. One’s faithfulness could ultimately be an inward rather than outward expression.
