"Delusions" installation

Curator’s Comment:

 

An absorbing installation, I was drawn to several of the individual components of this piece.  Red Bonnet, for example, seems to encapsulate the juxtaposition of mythological or literary references between real and imagined beings.  Recalling Red Riding Hood, the cloak is instead transposed onto the wild animal in the narrative.  The red strings on the hood travel through the natural surroundings, as if through poisoned vines.  The otherwise cool blue hue of the squared panel creates calm and also aesthetic unity.  I find the limited color palette in the idiosyncratic canvas panels throughout the multifaceted work helps link them in a variable grid, while the three dimensional sculptural works break out of the characteristic space.  Additional detail shots of “Delusions” reveal other hybridized human/animal creatures that seem to return the viewers gaze with watchful eyes.
