Curator’s Comments:

Don’t Look Back maintains a popular ranking on the site despite being created several years ago.  I was drawn in to its painterly expression, and what looks to be scumbled passages of layered and opaque oil pigment.  The bright clustered marks of high chroma color punctuate the softer transitions of amorphous blue tints.  I find myself contemplating the transition of elements in conjunction with the title of the painting. The verticality of the image doesn’t, for me, lend itself to a before and after, but the hazy organization evokes disjointed experiences and the nature of memory.  Even without direct narrative associations, I enjoy the abstraction and nuanced relationship between vivid and embedded forms. It’s a captivating piece.
