I’m drawn to this ink and collage piece that has a Dadaist juxtaposition of disparate elements. The smooth and stylized head dramatically sets up against the large amount of negative space, piercing the openness with the lipstick-instrument extension. The waffle earring strikes a nonsensical cord, as the food items protruding from the figure’s mouth echo the cherry lipstick and tubular extension from the mouth. The finer, smaller linear elements produce a maze pattern around the head, and then dissolve into hairy fridge along the base of the photographic pieces. Looking back through your other figural works on the site, I recall commenting on the lush piece Tomorrow’s Eyes. That painting seemed to include found collage pictures within the denser, painterly head, while this particular drawing (individually untitled, but designated Drawings 2011-12) has a sparser, arguably more dramatic spatial relationship. I do hope to see more of your work on the site, as this piece came up in a random selection.
